"Ryan! Is there a chance, any chance?!"
—Marianne Robertson, Love and War
Although there are still a few days left in December, it’s looking increasingly unlikely that we’ll be able to release the revamp of Act I in time. I apologize to anyone disappointed by this; I’m disappointed as well. We’re going to keep at it though, and I hope to have better news for you next year. I hope you have a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year!
The team is hard at work trying to row this boat ashore. Hopefully, the release of the revamped version of Act I is not too far away! In the meantime, two of my original experiments with voice acting have been added to Youtube: C’est Lavie! and Love and 24. If you haven’t seen them in a while, or at all, why not go take a gander?
It’s finally happened: I’m embracing social media (or taking the first step, anyway). Love and War now has its own Facebook page! Please do consider Liking, Faving, or whatever it is that you do with Facebook pages (sorry, I’m still not entirely clear on all the terminology) to keep up to date on all matters LAW.
I have a confession to make: I’ve never actually used Facebook before. Never. There are times when I’m just seized with the spirit of irrational iconoclasm, and Facebook was one of many casualties. I remember when Myspace (and later Facebook) first came out, and I just shrugged my shoulders and went on my way. “What do I need something like that for?” Of course social media continued to grow at an exponential rate, and it became increasingly harder to dismiss. Friends and family members asked to add me on Facebook, and I said I didn’t have one, and I didn’t need one. Never mind that social media was literally changing the shape of society, or that it was a new and exciting way to disseminate information of all sorts, or keep up to date on projects of interest - none of that mattered, because I was too cool for any of that! I had my pride!
But it was the potential for promoting your projects that finally got me to break down and create one. Love and War is worth more then my silly misguided pride in the end! Hence.

Being such a newbie to Facebook, I’d greatly appreciate any hints, tips, or tricks you more experienced Facebookers might have for, uh, Facebooking. Thank you for your time, and I hope to see you there!
I’ve set a tentative release date for the revamp of Act I: sometime in December (yes, December 2011). It’s possible (but rather unlikely…) that it will be released sooner, and I’m afraid it’s all too possible that it may be released later on after all. The remaining work is largely out of my hands at this point! Time will tell all things, time will tell…
Feedback from Wave 1 of beta testing is coming in, and quite the collection of interesting and helpful feedback it has been! I’m not entirely sure if there will be three waves of testing after all, perhaps just two would make more sense. We’ll see how it goes.
Another new piece of fan art has been added to Fan Contributions!
A new piece of art by King-sama has been added to Fan Contributions!
Wave 1 of beta testing is underway. Here’s to hoping that progress will continue at a steady pace!
A quick update: beta testing has commenced for the revamp of Act I. I’m hoping to have about three “waves” of testing, but we’ll see how it goes. Progress is slowly but surely being made on all fronts, including bug-fixing, artwork, and voice acting!
The “Vote for your Favorite!” contest (which unfortunately was held on the now defunct CJB forum) has a clear winner—two, in fact. Lavie Regale and Londes Kodenai tied for first place!
The original sketch was drawn by Shmeckie, and two versions were colored, one by King-sama, the other by Bic. I hope to hold more Love and War contests in the future!
Ladies and gentlemen, LAWyers and LAWyettes of all ages, I am pleased to announce the existence of the Act I Remake! Having been worked on for a number of months now, this new version of Act I is intended to be a significant upgrade over previous versions. Most maps have been tweaked, edited, and in many cases completely redone. Some examples:
All new mapping, as well as other new gameplay additions are thanks to the tireless and talented efforts of SGCN.
In addition, the new version will feature voice acting, new subquests, and new picture cutscenes! Here’s an example of the latter:
All new artwork comes from the remarkably talented hand of Reirei18 and is colored by the brilliant King-sama.
And let’s not forget improvements to the writing!
Just kidding.
The basic structure of Act I is virtually complete; all that remains is the wait for the “bells and whistles” to be completed, as well as beta testing. My hope is that everything will come together in a couple of months. If you have any comments, questions, suggestions or other feedback, I’d love to hear from you!
Salutations, all! I hope 2011 has been going well for everyone so far. If all goes well, I should have something of note to talk about a bit in the next news update in February. Until then, I bid you adieu for now.
